Privacy policy
Perplexd can be played without giving us any personal information. This page says exactly what is stored where.
In your browser
- A random player identifier (
px.uid) generated by your browser the first time you play. It is not linked to your name, email or device. - Which days you finished which puzzle, used to show your streak and totals.
- Small preferences (whether you have dismissed the how-to panel, analytics opt-out).
- A per-day random token used to count unique visitors; it is replaced every UTC day.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of this. There are no accounts and no way to recover a streak.
On our server
- For each puzzle you start: your player identifier, the puzzle number, your guesses, hints used and whether you finished. This is what lets attempt limits be real and lets the site compute “you beat 72% of players”. It is not used for anything else.
- Daily aggregate counters (page views, puzzle starts, finishes, shares) with no identifiers.
- A daily unique-visitor count: your per-day token is hashed with a secret on the server; the hash cannot be reversed or linked across days.
- Standard web server logs at Cloudflare (IP address, user agent, URL) retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation to understand how the site is used (pages, puzzle starts and finishes, share clicks). It loads only after you interact with the page. We do not send it your player identifier. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, analytics is disabled. You can also opt out by opening your browser console on any page and running localStorage.setItem('px.analytics_optout','true'); we will add a visible toggle.
Advertising
The puzzle pages carry no advertising. If we add advertising to the editorial pages in future, this policy and the cookie policy will be updated first, and advertising cookies will require your consent where the law requires it.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you beyond what is described above, the practical way to exercise your rights is to clear your browser’s site data. If you believe we hold something else, email perplexdgame@gmail.com.
